Erie City Council held a study session Thursday night, to discuss proposed changes to daycare inspection protocol. The proposed ordinance would give licenses to all daycare facilities, which would be valid for one year. Then the city would know where all daycares are located, and inspectors can notify the public when a daycare license has expired. Inspectors would look for the required number of smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, plus planned evacuation routes, and proper electrical services. Whatever council ultimately decides, Erie's Fire Chief, Guy Santone says they will do what they can to help businesses get into, and stay in compliance with safety regulations. Santone says the goal is to help close the loopholes in daycare inspection protocol.
