As our local first responders rush out the door to answer your calls, they are literally walking into the unknown, especially on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic -- but one local lawmaker is trying to change that.
“It is very disturbing not knowing because we want to be safe, (while) at the same time, protecting ourselves and also them,” said South Greensburg Fire Department Chief Eric Hardy.
It’s the new reality for first responders across our area -- scarce personal protection equipment and no knowledge of the health situation they’re walking right into. “In Westmoreland County, we can see how many cases there are, but we don’t know where they’re at. It could be right next door. It could be one of us, we have no idea,” Hardy said.
That’s why a local lawmaker is trying to change that.
