A night of celebration turned into a night of terror for one family in Berks County. "This was probably at least upwards of 2,000 degrees," said Trooper Janssen Herb, a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal. A fire torched much of the family's home in the unit block of Crescent Lane in Washington Township. The mom, dad, and daughter were able to get out in time, along with almost all of their pets. In the flames' path of destruction are the charred remains of two cars, the garage, and much of the rear of the home. The home's owner said the family had just celebrated the teen daughter's birthday and were getting ready to unwrap presents when a woman inside the home walked into the garage and saw flames ripping through cardboard boxes.
