Five people have died in house fires in Lancaster County in less than two months, and firefighters are taking some of the blame. "Whenever somebody loses their life in a fire, you do feel like you failed because nobody should ever die in a fire. It's 2020," said Duane Hagelgans, the spokesperson for the Lancaster County Fire Chiefs Association. The community lost a mother and daughter in January in Columbia, a young woman Feb. 17 in Elizabethtown and a mother and grandmother Saturday night in West Hempfield Township. Firefighters said they want people to know a lot more than stop, drop and roll and fear they're not doing a good enough job teaching it. "A, get that working smoke detector. B, sleep with that door closed. C, get out if you can. And if you can't, make sure that you call 911 and that you protect yourself in place the best as possible," Hagelgans said.
