A welding and repair shop located in Cumberland Township, Adams County, was destroyed after a fire ripped through the structure early Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters and emergency personnel from four counties in Pennsylvania and Maryland responded to the scene of the commercial building fire in the 700 block of Barlow Rd. shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 45 minutes and no injuries were reported, according to Barlow Volunteer Fire Department Chief Eric Hubbard. The fire is being ruled as accidental.
"The owner was welding in the shop before he went in to take lunch and while he was in eating lunch one of his neighbors notified him that there was smoke coming from the building,” Hubbard said. The chief estimated that around 50 firefighters and over two dozen emergency units responded to the incident from companies in Adams, Franklin, Frederick and Carroll counties.
