Jörg Richter, a retired German firefighter, will spend the night at the Erie Fire Department's Central Station. Richter is on a cross country bicycle journey to raise money and awareness for rare diseases through his foundation, Care for Rare. "Care for Rare is looking after the kids with rare diseases, the so called orphans of medicine," said Richter. "The kids that the industry and most people don't care about because there's not that much money to make with only a few kids worldwide." The journey is Richter's fourth time riding his bike across the country, but his first time in Erie. He says it's always been a lifelong dream to ride across the country. "When my three best friends died, more or less in a row in 2014, I said, 'well I'm not gonna postpone anything, it's on my bucket list. I'm going to fulfill that dream,'" continued Richter.
