Firefighters battled an intense fire in Munhall early Wednesday morning. Three people managed to escape the flames. The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at a home on Main Street. When crews arrived on scene, there were flames on the entire first floor. The fire did not spread to the second floor and attic. It took crews about 30 minutes to put out the blaze. We’re told the fire did extensive damage and that the residents are going to be displaced. Munhall Fire Chief Ed Pletsch said the homeowners did not have working smoke detectors and stressed the importance of having them in your home. “There were three adults inside the home at the time of the fire,” Pletsch said. “They woke up because they smelled smoke, which is an extreme rarity."
