Heating oil leaks into creek in Schuylkill County

Emergency personnel responded to an incident on Thursday afternoon involving heating oil leaking into a creek in North Manheim Township. According to Skook News, the leak happened on Thursday around 2 PM. Emergency personnel were called to an odor investigation near the Mahonney Creek near Orwigsburg. When officials arrived, they found a strong odor of fuel oil coming from the creek. An investigation found that the incident was caused by heating oil tank that was leaking from a private residence on West Market Street and into the creek. Schuylkill County Emergency Management, Orwigsburg Fire, and Schuylkill Haven Fire placed booms and pads in areas along the Mahonney Creek to contain the oil.
