The City of Erie welcomed the Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association on Thursday.
The association is comprised of fire chiefs around the state that get together to discuss a variety of topics impacting their county. This includes issues such as risk reduction, recruitment, and retention of staff.
According to those in attendance, this meeting is a great opportunity to network and speak on how to combat these issues.
One of the biggest issues on the agenda is the ongoing firefighter shortage.
“The community should be well aware of what their fire department does for them and what services they can provide," said Dustin Ulrich, president of the Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association. "There's a revamp on the recruitment and retention programs right now going on. Some funding is going into those programs as well."
