VIDEO: A group of Pennsylvania Wildland Firefighters with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are back home after spending two weeks out west helping to put out massive wildfires.
On Wednesday, the firefighters stopped at the Red Lion Hotel in Dauphin County to regroup before heading back to their families.
But, two lucky firefighters said, the fires didn't exactly keep them from family.
“It's kind of hard to be homesick when I had family with me," said Madison Walters.
Despite the weeks of hard nights, long hours and unrelenting fires, Madison and his daughter Abby somehow never lost hope.
“We weren’t on the same squad but we saw each other every night. We did get to work a couple days together," he said.
