A fire that destroyed an abandoned building in West Warwick early Sunday morning is being investigated as arson.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News, the building is vacant and there weren't any smoke detectors.
The fire department received three 911 calls from neighbors and people passing by the area who saw the flames around 12:30 a.m.
They said about eighty percent of the structure was engulfed in flames.
"Because it was a vacant building we didn't assign any firefighters to the interior due to safety concerns and the amount of involvement, and potential for collapse, so we conducted operations from the exterior," West Warwick Fire Captain Eric Norberg said.
