Heavy fire caused significant damage early Wednesday morning to a South Kingstown house. A family awoke to flames leaping from the back of their home at 17 Briarwood Drive at about 12:30 a.m. Family members escaped unharmed, but the Union Fire District said one firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor injury. The fire damaged a deck and the back of the home, as well as the attic. A fire official said the fire was partially fueled by a propane tank. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
