Providence fire recruit injured in fall at Connecticut training academy

A Providence fire recruit was injured after falling from a building at a New Haven training facility Thursday. According to our sister station WTNH, a New Haven Fire Department lieutenant confirmed that a recruit from the Providence Fire Department Training Academy fell from a building while training at the New Haven Regional Fire Training Academy at 230 Ella T. Grasso Blvd. Providence officials have identified the firefighter as Richard Rand. According to a spokeswoman, the firefighter's injuries are non-life threatening. A WTNH crew was told on scene that the firefighters were training on the "antiquated" pompier ladder when the fall occurred.
