A Providence firefighter recruit injured during a training exercise Thursday will soon be on his way back to Rhode Island. Officials say Richard Rand from the Providence Fire Department Training Academy fell from a building while training at the New Haven Regional Fire Training Academy. Rand was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He told our sister station WTNH that he is doing well and doctors were prepping him to be released Friday afternoon. Rand did not elaborate on the extent of his injuries, though initial reports reveal he suffered multiple broken bones from the impact of the fall. A WTNH crew was told on scene that the firefighters were training on the "antiquated" pompier ladder when the fall occurred.
