Providence fire officials explain Safe Haven Law after neglect death

VIDEO: After the death of a seven-day-old baby in Providence, officials are highlighting a state law meant to keep newborn infants safe. Providence Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Brian Mahoney said the public should be aware of the Safe Haven Act. “Anybody who doesn’t feel they can keep their child within 30 days of birth or a child that appears to be within 30 days of birth, they can drop them off at any fire station, police station, hospital or medical facility,” Mahoney said. After the death of a seven-day-old baby in Providence, officials are highlighting a state law meant to keep newborn infants safe. The parent would not be charged with child abandonment.
