The American Red Cross was called in early Monday morning to help a family of five after their Providence home was damaged in a fire. Emergency crews responded just before 4 a.m. to Fairmount Avenue to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross provided comfort kits to the two adults and three children who were displaced, and in the coming days a caseworker will help the family develop a long-term recovery plan. “A recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided,” Jonathan Sandstrom of the Red Cross said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
