Fire department’s in Coventry had their hands full early Monday evening, fighting three fires as thunderstorms swept through the area.
Lightning ignited at least two of the fires.
Western Coventry Fire District Chief James Cady said they happened around 6:40 p.m. and the two in his district were started by lightning strikes.
“We were unaware at first because the storm knocked out our radio minutes before,” Cady said. “We had to let everyone know by cellphone.”
The fires happened at 495 Williams Crossing Rd. and 209 Shady Valley Rd.
Cady said that the residents were home but that no one was injured.
All Coventry fire districts, as well as those from neighboring towns into Connecticut, responded.
