The NBC 10 I-Team has obtained a secretly recorded interrogation of a young Cranston firefighter, who witnessed a scuffle between his superiors. The line of questioning has become part of a civil lawsuit against the city. In September 2017, a firehouse fight broke out at Station No. 6 in Cranston after insults were tossed around. Lt. Scott Bergantino accused Deputy Fire Chief Paul Valletta of assault, adding that he pushed him against a wall and punched him in the head. Witnesses, including one young firefighter, had backed Bergantino's story. Rhode Island State Police arrested the deputy chief, who is also the president of IAFF Local 1363. "I'm looking forward to the truth coming out. I'll be back to work doing what I love doing,” said Valletta after court in 2017. He was acquitted of the assault charges, but found guilty of disorderly conduct.
