Tiverton’s new Fire Chief Joseph Mollo III of Johnston, was sworn in at the beginning of Monday night’s Town Council meeting by Council President Robert Coulter, as his family and many members of the Fire Department in their dress blues watched. The ceremony ended with Mollo’s son, Joseph Mollo IV, a Providence firefighter, pinning the chief’s badge on his father’s lapel. “I love having him as a son and a brother,” the chief said of his son who is now his “brother” in fire services. Mollo III, standing at the podium, took time to thank Capt. Bruce Reimels who did “an incredible job”as acting chief during the last eight months. “He’s just been really exceptional,” the chief said, adding that he is most patient. “He puts up with me asking the same question over and over again,” he said of Reimels introducing him to the department. The new chief said it is not his plan to make big changes in the department, but instead to improve what is already in place.
