Two firefighters are recovering from injuries after they were hurt battling a blaze on the third floor of an Ocean Rise Drive home Saturday.
Misquamicut firefighters, assisted by volunteers with the Westerly, Watch Hill and Dunn’s Corners fire departments, responded to reports of a house fire at 7 Ocean Rise Drive just before 12:30 p.m. Westerly police and personnel with the Westerly Ambulance Corps also responded. According to officials, firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from the third floor and heavy flames showing from the roof of a dormer on the rear of the house. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the third-floor area and extinguish all flames within about an hour, officials said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the response and were taken by ambulance to Westerly Hospital where they were treated and released. They were both expected to make a full recovery.
