A four-vehicle crash briefly closed East Main Road on Tuesday afternoon, Portsmouth firefighters said. Seven people were evaluated or treated at the scene and one person was taken to the hospital.
The crash happened at the intersection of Quaker Hill Lane around 2:15 p.m., the department said. The road was briefly closed to traffic as emergency responders worked to clear the vehicles from the roadway.
"Thank you for everyone's patience out on the road today. We try to keep traffic flowing, but keeping the victims and emergency workers (including our tow truck drivers) safe is our priority," the department wrote on Facebook. "We sometimes have to stop traffic for short periods in order to get the road way cleared quicker and keep everyone working the scene safe."
