The city of Warwick has reached a tentative agreement with the firefighters union. Mayor Joseph Solomon announced on Thursday a three-year, cost-neutral contract, saying in part it will "save the city over $450,000 in the first year." Solomon said the deal reduces time off, increases management rights, and resolves the former Tier II pension and sick time payout issues. The contract also includes implementation of a 24-hour shift schedule, which he said should lead to decreased overtime costs. The tentative contract is retroactive to July 1 and runs until June 30, 2022. It includes no raise this fiscal year and 2% raises in the next two years. "I thank the union membership for working with me and my administration to come to an agreement that is fair to our firefighters and addresses a great number of taxpayers' concerns," said Solomon.
