Six pets perished in a late-morning fire in a home at 324 Cottrell Road that is now uninhabitable because of smoke and water damage, according to Fire Chief Bruce Reimels.
The two-story house at 324 Cottrell Road, off Fish Road, is uninhabitable after a mid-morning fire, according to Fire Chief Bruce Reimels.
None of the four occupants was home when a neighbor called dispatch at 10:16 a.m. to report smoke coming from the two-stall garage, adding that someone could be inside.
The first firefighters on the scene, from the East Road fire station, searched inside the house while a family member arrived to confirm no one was inside, Reimels said.
“Luckily we had three people on Engine 3,” Reimels said of the first engine on scene.
The closest engine, from the Crandall Road station, was on another call at the time, as were both rescue vehicles.
