A recycling truck caught fire in West Warwick Thursday, with authorities dumping its contents in the middle of the road to douse flames.
Council President David Gosselin told NBC 10 News a driver for Mega Disposal spotted the fire when he was collecting recyclables on Renaudet Street just before noon.
“He was doing his route in West Warwick and noticed that his truck was smoldering after picking up a recycling bin in the Phenix area,” Gosselin said. “He reported it to the West Warwick Fire Department.”
Authorities arrived at the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire but had some trouble.
“They actually were trying to put the fire out, but it was too far into the truck that they had to empty the load and cleaned it out with rakes and hose it down,” Gosselin said.
