VIDEO: Flames destroyed a multifamily home in Providence early Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to the home at 27 Geneva St. at about 6 a.m. Flames shot through the roof.
"Companies arrived on scene to find heavy fire on the third floor as well as fire on second floor. Approximately five minutes later, a second alarm was struck and shortly thereafter, companies had to be removed from the building because of the amount of fire," Battalion Chief Kevin Jutras said.
Authorities said two families escaped the house without injury. The Red Cross was assisting them. A firefighter had a minor shoulder injury, and a bystander slipped and fell.
Besides the flames, firefighters had to cope with bitter cold. It was about 19 degrees, but the wind made it feel like it was in the single-digits.
