An 18-year-old Fall River man suffered serious injuries Tuesday night when he jumped from the towering jagged ledge along Route 24, landing between the base of the rock and a chain link fence. Police Capt. Michael Miguel said the man was with three other friends on the top of the ledge on the south side of the highway, locally known as Blueberry Hill that is accessible from a road behind Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital on Main Road, when he made some suicidal statements. One of the friends called police at 6:13 p.m., Miguel said. When Police and Fire Department rescue arrived a short time later, the man was already on the ground. “He was wedged between the rock and the chain link fence,” Miguel said. The chain link fence at the base of the cliffs on Route 24 is there to keep rock from falling onto the roadway.
