A Tiverton family was able to escape their home after a fire broke out Sunday afternoon.
According to Tiverton Fire Captain Andrew Kettle, the fire started just after 12 p.m. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire towards the front of the Mt. Hope Avenue home.
A resident of the home said she was able to escape the fire safely with her dog and boyfriend. She said a dumpster outside caught on fire first, before it spread to the home.
Kettle says the home and a car in the driveway sustained significant damage.
The Red Cross says they are providing the family with their immediate needs. Those affected will be able to connect with Red Cross caseworkers to work on a recovery plan.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious.
