Using a hobby he knows, Girell Alexandre, 16, of North Providence and Troop 76 Providence, completed his Eagle Scout project by landscaping the grounds around the North Providence Volunteer Firefighters Monument at the North Providence Public Safety Complex. Alexandre said he had many ideas about where and how he was going to complete the project. He said landscaping has become a hobby of his as he mows his dad’s boss’s lawn as well as projects in his own yard. “We were driving by the safety complex on Mineral Spring Avenue and I saw the memorial,” he said. “I thought it would be pretty cool for it to be landscaped and I could show some honor to firefighters.” He said he contacted the town and got the approval for the project from Mayor Charles Lombardi. He said he knew about a re-dedication ceremony of the monument set to take place Oct. 4, so his plan was to get the project finished by then.
