The annual Karl E. Kenyon Smokey Bear Parade was in full effect Thursday night, after a toned-down event last year.
This parade has been going strong for over 50 years, recently renamed in 2010 in memory of former Deputy Chief of Dunn's Corners Fire. The annual parade is a chance for children to interact with first responders and learn about fire prevention.
It kicked off at the Dunn's Corners Fire Department in Westerly, ending at Langworthy and Route 1 intersection. Residents from all towns were invited to join in on the fun.
The first responders made multiple stops along their route to greet children, take pictures, and introduce Smokey the Bear.
Last year, this part of the event was slightly different because there were no stops, the vehicles just drove by.
