Graduating high school seniors in South Kingstown can apply for up to $2,500 in scholarships from the town's fire departments. Union and Kingston fire districts are offering grants to six students, totaling $10,000.
"We thank the Town of South Kingstown for providing us with the ability to offer these scholarships this year," said Steven Pinch, the chief of the Union Fire District. "We are always excited when young members of our community join our ranks, and we look forward to offering several students with scholarships this year to help them pursue their interests after high school."
One student will receive $2,500, two $2,000, one $1,500 and two $1,000, the departments announced in a joint statement. Applications must be received by April 30 to qualify. The scholarships are open to current South Kingstown firefighters and graduating high school seniors.
