Providence police said Tuesday they charged a mother of two girls who were killed in a fire over a year ago. The fire happened just before 2 p.m. on Lucy Street in December 2020. Ingrid Sandoval, 28, is now facing two count of manslaughter and is being held on $30,000 bail. Commissioner Steven Paré said at the time that they believed Sandoval was walking to a nearby market when the fire broke out. DCYF conducted an investigation following the fire in December of 2020, determining that neglect of some sort by Sandoval led to the girls’ death. “It really just seems like she made a poor judgement call that day, and unfortunately it proved to be fatal,” said neighbor Jessie Rooney. Sandoval’s daughters, ages 2 and 7, were on the second floor of the home at the time of the fire. They were taken to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
