Neighbors helped save a woman when they saw smoke billowing from her Homer Street house in Providence on Sunday afternoon. Fire officials said the woman didn't know the house was on fire until her neighbors banged on the door. Firefighters got to the scene just before 4 p.m. Crews said the fire started on the second floor and quickly spread to the attic. The house was deemed uninhabitable. No injuries were reported. Officials said the family will be assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
