Four people and a dog escaped a house fire in Pawtucket early Monday morning.
The Pawtucket Fire Department responded around 1:00 a.m. to a home on Carpenter Street.
Fire officials say the fire started in the basement.
Four people and a dog were able to get out safely, according to the Red Cross. One man told NBC 10 that his wife woke him up to the fire alarm going off.
“It was in the basement. When she opened the basement door she saw the smoke. She came and woke me up and said “David! David, there’s a fire here because I see smoke coming frown downstairs.” I went downstairs and when I saw the fire I called the fire department right away,” David Ballah Sr. tells NBC 10. Fire officials say the fire didn’t damage the upper levels of the home, but the family isn’t able to live in the home at the moment.
