Fire Station One on West Avenue in Pawtucket has officially reopened after being closed for the past seven years, according to the City of Pawtucket.
The $5 million renovation project, funded through building bonds and the American Rescue Plan, was celebrated with a grand reopening ceremony Sunday.
Among the improvements made to the facility are expansion of the building from 6,000 to 7,500 square feet, a new apparatus bay for the ladder truck, a new fitness center and a new laundry room.
“The neighborhood has been waiting for this moment, and we’re excited to finally be back,” said Fire Chief John Trenteseaux. “The support from our community has been incredible, and we look forward to continuing our tradition of service right here in West Avenue.”
The station, originally built in 1912, was closed in 2017 due to mold issues.
