Members of the state's arson dog teams completed their annual recertification virtually Wednesday. The three teams come from Horry County Fire Rescue, Burton Fire Department, and the Darlington Fire Department. The dogs demonstrated their skills to locate evidence of arson via zoom call. Cpt. Mathew Rice and Lt. John Perry, members of the state's arson dog teams, said "It would probably take us without a dog to work a building, with a heavy involved fire, probably eight hours; with a canine it takes that time to a half-hour to 45 minutes." The arson dog team members said their canines Sam and Crosby have helped at more than 100 scenes in the last few years.
