After several delays, Charleston city officials say the new fire station on Savannah Highway will soon be complete.
The City of Charleston Parks and Recreation Director, Jason Kronsberg, says the exact date is still unknown. But he says they are talking to the contractor at least once a week now in an effort to open the long-awaited fire station.
Station 11, which is on Savannah Highway in West Ashley, is being built next to the Charleston 9 Memorial Park. The original completion date was December of 2019, but Kronsberg says the contractor has pushed that date back one month at a time for more than 12 months for several reasons, including the pandemic.
Now Kronsberg says they are working on the flooring, which should be finished in the next week or two. And he says he believes this will be the last step before city officials review the building.
