Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged an abandoned two-story home and also an adjacent building Monday afternoon. The fire, in the 30 block of Reid Street, was reported to Charleston County 911 dispatchers at 2:29 p.m. The damage the fire caused to the neighboring building will displace three residents of that building until a structural inspection can verify that the building is safe for their return, firefighters said. Charleston firefighters arrived within three minutes and saw a significant fire at the two-story home. Additional units from the Charleston, Mount Pleasant and North Charleston Fire Departments responded to assist. When the fire began to spread to a building next door, firefighters called in a second alarm, which brought units from the Charleston, James Island, St. Andrews and North Charleston Fire Departments.
