As the world watched Notre Dame cathedral burn, Bishop Richard Stika, of the Diocese of Knoxville, thought of the time he visited the historic site. He then pictured and understood the different fire safety precautions his own cathedral now has. "The iron structure, the frame. Everything is coded with fire retardant. The materials in the walls, the outside brick, the roof, the sprinkler system. Everything is coordinated. But this is 800 years later from when they built Notre Dame. You can see all the different reasons for the fire safety mechanisms. Progress has been made over the centuries," Stika said.
