Several fire departments responded to house fires on Sunday and Monday morning. Both homes, one located at Sinking Creek Road, and the other on Long Brand Road, were a total loss according to the Cocke County Fire Department. On Sunday, the CCFD was dispatched to the 2400 block of Long Branch Road concerning a structure fire just before 5 a.m. Upon arrival, fire crews reported the mobile home, owned by Aurine Barnett, was fully engulfed by flames. Fire crews spoke with Barnett, who said her daughter woke up and smelled smoke coming from a chest freezer that was located near the laundry room. The family was able to escape the home without injury. The home was a total loss and valued at $80,000.
