First responders across most of Tennessee will no longer have access to the personal information of people with COVID-19.
Wednesday, Governor Bill Lee decided to abandon a policy that allowed it. But FOX13 learned in Shelby County, addresses will still be collected and sent to 911 dispatchers.
Gov. Lee’s decision was praised by the chairman of the Tennessee Legislative Black Caucus and criticized by the head of the Memphis Fire Fighters Association. As for Shelby County, the health department said it is reviewing the matter. If you live outside of Shelby County, your personal information stays private if you test positive for COVID-19.
After weeks of criticism, Gov. Lee said one of the reasons for the policy change is that the first responders have enough personal protective equipment.
