The Memphis Fire department opened a brand new fire station in Downtown Memphis Thursday. The new Fire Station Number 5 replaces the old one on Front and Monroe Streets which is also the Fire Department’s headquarters. This brand new state-of-the-art fire station is fitted with all of the latest bells and whistles to ensure firefighters will be equipped with everything needed to be ready to respond. It’s one of several new facilities the Memphis Fire Department has opened in recent months. This fire station will add to the already overlapping coverage for the Medical District, Downtown, and Uptown areas. So this will provide them a little bit better coverage into that area as the Medical District and that area starts to grow,” said MFD Chief Gina Sweat. “It also gives us an additional engine closer to that locations it’s built in mind with response to make sure we can respond to all the areas we need to downtown.”
