A house fire Tuesday night in Milledgeville claimed the lives of two people, Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin said. “It’s disheartening, the loss of life – it makes you feel like you didn’t do enough. In two months we’ve had three fatalities. We’ve got to figure out a way to make sure people can at least get out,” he said. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is withholding the names of the victims pending positive identification. Hardin County Fire Department firefighters from multiple districts, Station 12 in Savannah, and the Milledgeville and Saltillo Fire Departments responded to 465 Ellis Road at 11:23 p.m., along with sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel. Once the first fatality was confirmed a fire investigator from the TBI was called in.
