With the help of the Erwin Fire Department, the Unicoi County Public Library was able to place U.S. and Tennessee flags on the previously vacant pole that stands in front of the non-profit’s building.
“The flags were donated by a patron, as well as the rope to hang the flags,” said UCPL Operations Manager Genisa Concepcion. “The fire department came to do a walkthrough for suggestions, and they were able to stay and hang the flags up for us.”
EFD Fire Chief Jeff Bailey and EFD Fire Marshal Jason Harris used their 50-foot fire truck ladder to climb to the top of the pole and insert the flag.
Harris said the EFD also donated a fire extinguisher to the library.
“We try and assist everyone we can, especially the non-profits,” said Harris. “From the senior center to the library.”
Bailey, a former U.S. Marine from 1986 to 1993, said the flag’s patriotic symbolism deserves recognition.
