Lubbock Fire Chief Lance Phelps turned in his intent to retire

Fire Chief Lance Phelps has turned in his intent to retire effective April 26th. Chief Phelps joined Lubbock Fire Rescue January 5th 1987 and has served the citizens of Lubbock faithfully for 32+ years. After promoting through the ranks Lance was named Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue in October of 2015 and became the 9th Fire Chief of the department. Under his direction Lubbock Fire Rescue constructed a multi-function Emergency Operations Center and a new Fire Station 1. Lubbock Fire Rescue was awarded the coveted ISO Class 1 certification during his tenure as Chief. He was instrumental in the creation of Priority Dispatch, Emergency Medical System Advisory Committee, Tactical Paramedic Program, Community Paramedics, modernization of the LFR fleet to include placement of Quints, and dedication to improving Firefighter health and safety.
