Multiple agencies responded to a large fire in South Lubbock County near FM 2130 and FM 41. The fire burned an estimated five acres of private land. Original reports from the Emergency Management coordinator had the fire possibly starting from the removal of trash. KCBD has spoken with neighbors of the landowners who say the fire began when an arc from the electric motor of a golf cart sparked on dry grass. Neighbors say when the grass burned, it caught a nearby pile of trash that was waiting to be removed in a burn pit under less hazardous conditions. The fire spread to a number of parked cars and a barn that suffered fire damage several months before. KCBD is continuing to follow this story and will bring more information as it becomes available.
