VIDEO: The El Paso Fire Department is reminding us about pet fire safety. Not only should you keep your pets from accidentally starting fires, but pet owners should also keep animals in mind when coming up with a fire escape plan. The National Fire Protection Association said nearly 1,000 home fires each year, are accidentally started by pets. So, the fire department suggests pet proofing your home and to keep your pets away from any open flames. Also, try to keep an eye on your pets and keep them away from items that could spark a fire, like loose wires, stove knobs and any other potential hazards. EPFD said another way to prepare yourself and your pets, is to come up with a pet friendly fire escape plan. That way, it can help firefighters quickly spot and save animals.
