A 19-year-old New Braunfels man will likely not be criminally charged after he fatally struck a pedestrian pushing a shopping cart on Wednesday, according to police. New Braunfels police responded to the crash in the 2100 block of Interstate 35 southbound frontage road around 1:15 a.m., officials said. The driver of an SUV told police he did not see the man until he struck him. The man was wearing dark clothing and walking in the left lane of traffic, according to police.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, but was not positively identified as of Wednesday morning. Police closed the road for three hours to conduct their investigation. The crash was deemed an accident, police said, and though the investigation is still ongoing, they don't expect to arrest the driver in connection to this case.
