A large thunderstorm moved northeast over the Great Salt Lake Tuesday evening. With the storm, came lightning that was likely the cause of at least two fires in Davis County. Jason N. Cook Battalion Chief with Layton Fire Department said around 8:30 p.m. a lightning-caused fire sparked on marshy land in the southwest section of Layton. The land is a nature conservancy owned by the state. The fire is estimated at about 75 acres, but it’s not currently threatening any structures. Due to the fire’s location and access issues, officials decided on “limited engagement until the morning.” State fire officials also reported a fire sparked in the wetlands of Farmington Bay. Firefighters responded to the scene and were prepared to engage it where access permitted. Officials have not yet said what caused this fire.
