VIDEO: Fire officials are using a new video of an abandoned campfire to send a message. Authorities say a person came across the unattended flames in the foothills near Bountiful, which is the very same area the Gun Range Fire started last year. That blaze was sparked by an abandoned fire, just like this one.
The video is especially concerning because it's the third abandoned fire--that officials know of--found in that very same area in the last week. They say this has to stop.
Fire Marshall Doug Bitton with the Layton City Fire Department shared how dangerous and upsetting it is to see abandoned fires. He says just like when you leave on a hike, you take water and sunscreen. If you plan to start a fir, you need to be prepared and responsible for putting it out.
