Fire breaks out near La Verkin, quickly grows to 200 acres

PHOTO: Hours after state firefighters were wrapping up work on the Anderson Junction Fire near Toquerville, a new fire sparked in Washington County. It already has a name: the LaVerkin Hill Fire, and was estimated to have burned 200 acres and was 10% contained as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fire crews got to work putting out the flames half a mile east of La Verkin after reports of the fire reached authorities at approximately 6:45 p.m. The fire is near La Verkin Overlook Road, which is south of state Route 9, a press release states. No structures were threatened at the time of the press release, and no evacuations have been ordered. The cause remains under investigation.
